First passage percolation on the random graph

چکیده
We study first passage percolation on the random graph Gp(N) with exponentially distributed weights on the links. For the special case of the complete graph this problem can be described in terms of a continuous time Markov chain and recursive trees. The Markov chain X(t) describes the number of nodes that can be reached from the initial node in time t. The recursive trees, which are uniform trees of N nodes, describe the structure of the cluster once it contains all the nodes of the complete graph. From these results the distribution of the number of hops (links) of the shortest path between two arbitrary nodes is derived. We generalize this result to an asymptotic result, as N → ∞, for the case of the random graph where each link is present independently with a probability pN as long as NpN (logN)3 →∞. The interesting point of this generalization is that (i) the limiting distribution is insensitive to p and (ii) the distribution of the number of hops of the shortest path between two arbitrary nodes has a remarkable fit with shortest path data measured in the Internet (cf. [6]).

First passage percolation on a hyperbolic graph admits bi-infinite geodesics*
Given an infinite connected graph, a way to randomly perturb its metric is to assign random i.i.d. lengths to the edges. An open question attributed to Furstenberg ([14]) is whether there exists a bi-infinite geodesic in first passage percolation on the euclidean lattice of dimension at least 2. Although the answer is generally conjectured to be negative, we give a positive answer for graphs sa...
متن کاملThe front of the epidemic spread and first passage percolation
In this paper we establish a connection between epidemic models on random networks with general infection times considered in [2] and first passage percolation. Using techniques developed in [6], when each vertex has infinite contagious periods, we extend results on the epidemic curve in [2] from bounded degree graphs to general sparse random graphs with degrees having finite third moments as n...
متن کاملOn the Markov Transition Kernels for First Passage Percolation on the Ladder
We consider the first passage percolation problem on the random graph with vertex set N×{0, 1}, edges joining vertices at a Euclidean distance equal to unity, and independent exponential edgeweights. We provide a central limit theorem for the first passage times ln between the vertices (0, 0) and (n, 0), thus extending earlier results about the almost-sure convergence of ln/n as n → ∞. We use g...
متن کاملFirst-passage properties of the Erdős–Renyi random graph
We study the mean time for a random walk to traverse between two arbitrary sites of the Erdó́s–Renyi random graph. We develop an effective medium approximation that predicts that the mean first-passage time between pairs of nodes, as well as all moments of this first-passage time, are insensitive to the fraction p of occupied links. This prediction qualitatively agrees with numerical simulations...
متن کاملSpeeding up non-Markovian First Passage Percolation with a few extra edges
One model of real-life spreading processes is First Passage Percolation (also called SI model) on random graphs. Social interactions often follow bursty patterns, which are usually modelled with i.i.d. heavy-tailed passage times on edges. On the other hand, random graphs are often locally tree-like, and spreading on trees with leaves might be very slow, because of bottleneck edges with huge pas...
